A mapping app will tell you London to Lyon is nine hours. It is not, with an animal on board. Add the crossing, add a stop every three hours, add the collection and the hand-over at each end, and you get the number below.
A rough guide
- Northern France: one day, collection in the morning and hand-over the same evening
- Paris and the Loire: one day
- Germany, Austria, Switzerland: one to two days
- Northern Italy: two days
- Spain and Portugal: two to three days
- Southern Italy and Greece: three days
What makes it longer
Collection and delivery addresses far from a main road. A crossing that only runs at certain hours. An animal that needs more stops than usual. School holidays at Folkestone. We plan for all of these rather than hoping.
Overnight stops
On anything over about twelve hours of driving the journey breaks for the night. The animals stay with the driver rather than going into kennels, because the point of a dedicated car is that nothing about the journey is shared, and that includes where everyone sleeps.
The exact time for your route is on the quote, worked out from your two addresses rather than from the middle of two cities.
