Ferret transport

Ferrets travel under the same pet travel rules as dogs and cats: microchip, rabies vaccination and a health certificate. We carry them in a secure carrier, in the same car as the rest of your household’s animals.

We reply within 10 minutes, 8am to 8pm.

Ferrets are the third animal the pet travel rules cover, alongside dogs and cats, so the paperwork is the same: a microchip, a rabies vaccination and, for the EU, an Animal Health Certificate. The journey itself needs a little more thought. A ferret can slip through a gap a cat could not, so the carrier is escape-proof and latched, and ferrets do not cope with heat, so the car is kept cool and the carrier is never in the sun.

Before the journey

  • A microchip, fitted before the rabies vaccination
  • A rabies vaccination at least 21 days before travel, kept in date
  • For journeys into the EU, an Animal Health Certificate issued by an official vet in the 10 days before departure (an EU pet passport counts only if issued in the EU to someone who lives there)
  • A sleeping pouch or blanket from home, so the carrier smells familiar

Other small animals

Rabbits, guinea pigs and birds are not covered by the pet travel scheme and travel under different rules that vary by country. We can often carry them; ask us before you book and we will tell you what the destination requires.
